Yamuna Zake – Proudly Unconventional
Yesterday we discussed Jacky O’Shaughnessy who, at 62, became a model for American Apparel and who, in her interviews, shares her own experience with body shame and eventual acceptance.
Today, I bring you Yamuna Zake, fitness guru extraordinaire, pioneer of Yamuna Body Rolling. Like Jacky, she is a tall, gray-haired goddess-of-a-woman who is unapologetic about her age, her hair, and her determination to maintain the ability to wear high heels with her favorite Japanese designer duds. She has taken a firm stance to be who she is and to be proud of that. If you’d like to know a bit more about Yamuna, check out her website and Who Is Yamuna.
With role models like this, how can we fail to be inspired to find our own unique worth and beauty? I do not believe either of these women are the exceptions. I believe we can all stand in our self-ness and be proud. You don’t have to be tall; you don’t have to be thin. You do have to be determined to be the best you you can be and you must be determined to be proud of who you have become…no matter who that is.
